Case Study - ButterflyMX
Accounting Manager and Senior AR/AP Manager for leading property technology firm, Butterfly MX.
The Challenge
ButterflyMX design video intercoms, access control systems, security cameras, and other solutions for properties. While having an exceptional internal talent team, ButterflyMX had exhausted all options active in the market for these two specialist searches, so approached Cobalt. They needed:
- An Accounting Manager from a Big 4 background with experience within a start-up environment in real estate.
- An AP/AR Manager that was capable of not only managing the Accounts Receivable and Payable functions, but also of re-engineering a number of internal processes and enacting real change within the organization.
The Solution
ButterflyMX was keen not to rush the process as these were growth hires, instead focusing on getting in the right candidate.
With real estate finance a core pillar of our offering since inception, we knew that we would have a number of candidates for both of these niche requirements within our database, and be able to approach them in a targeted, methodical way - even though they wouldn’t necessarily be looking for a new role at that time.
Potential candidates were screened via a 15-minute phone call, followed by a 45-minute in-person meeting, looking at both technical and behavioral competencies. We then created a shortlist for ButterflyMX with a detailed write-up on each candidate, talking through each of their attributes in detail.
The Results
3 candidates were submitted in the shortlist for the Accounting Manager role with 1 put through to a final stage, and 2 candidates were put forward at shortlist stage for the Senior AP/AR Manager position with both making it to a final stage. Appointed included:
- An Accounting Manager with 10 years’ experience who started their career within a Big 4 organization, joining from a similar role working for multiple SaaS companies at CFGI.
- A Senior AP/AR Manager that had 10 years’ experience across AR, AP, Finance and Operations, with the bulk of the experience from within high-growth technology companies.
Both roles were filled from brief to their first day within 6 weeks.
